Wardrobe Removal FAQ's

How do I remove a freestanding wardrobe, or wardrobe connected with brackets?

It is quite important to plan ahead and take care when removing or handling the wardrobe as they can be fairly heavy and awkward to manoeuvre. You will need to ensure you have enough space and consider wearing gloves. You will also need to gather any tools required in advance and try to seek the help of a friend or family member.

Once you have done this you should:

Empty any contents of the wardrobe.
Check for any drawers not fixed in place by opening fully, then giving a steady tug. If it is not fixed in place it should drop right out at this point. Otherwise you will need to leave for later steps.
Check for any shelves that are only held in place by fittings but not actually fixed to the wardrobe itself, remove them and place them aside.
Next, move on to the doors, especially if they are mirrored as they can be quite heavy and make a considerable difference to the process. Ask a friend or family member to hold the door steady. If no one is available to assist alternatively you can wedge something underneath. Then, one by one, carefully remove the doors by undoing the screw/brackets holding each door in place. As you do so each door will gradually disconnect. Place them safely on the floor
For wardrobes attached to the wall, remove any screws and/or brackets holding it in place. For freestanding wardrobes it will be any screws and/or brackets holding it together
If the wardrobe has a back panel, you may need to remove it now to access the remaining fittings. Check for nails or tacks and gently knock the bank panel away from the main section
At this point you should be left with the main frame and middle sections and you will need to disassemble one panel at a time. Starting with the top panel, then the side and middle panels.
Contact us to schedule a collection of your dismantled wardrobe.

If you are not comfortable with any of the above steps our team of experts will be happy to arrange a disassembly and removal of your old or unwanted wardrobe at a time that is convenient for you.
