What is the difference between man and van waste clearance and skip hire?

There are a few key differences that you should consider when deciding whether to use a man and van or skip hire solution for your project. These are: •Convenience – With a man and van service, you don't have to worry about loading, our team will do the heavy lifting for you. In contrast, with skip hire, you are responsible for loading the skip yourself, which can be time-consuming, costly and physically demanding. •Space – Man and van services can access more locations and fit into tighter spaces than a skip, making them ideal for urban areas or properties with limited access. •Permission – With skip hire, you will need to obtain a permit from your local authority if you plan to place the skip on a public road, whereas a man and van service can often park close to your property and doesn't require a permit. •Weight & Volume of waste - With a skip, you are suited to much heavier and dense waste such as soil and stones, whereas a man and van service is better for lighter, bulkier items. For example an 8 yard skip can hold up to 8 tonnes of heavy waste making it more suitable for construction waste, while an 8 yard, large man and van load can take around 700kg and is ideal for household waste.

The cost of our junk removal service and skip hire services varies depending on the type and volume of waste, as well as location. On average our man and van rubbish removal ranges from £90 for a mini van load to £440 per super size full van load. Skip hire is from £250 for a 4 yard to £2,000+ for a 40 yard general rubbish container and grab hire from £350 to £950 depending on the type of waste. If you need a private wheelie bin collection our prices start from £75 for a 240L bin of recyclables to a 1100L bin of non-recyclables for £170. How do you dispose of the waste you collect?

We follow a strict process for waste disposal to ensure it is handled responsibly and in accordance with environmental regulations. After collection, and separation of any items to be donated to charity, any remaining waste for disposal is transported to licensed waste transfer stations or recycling centres where it is further sorted and processed. We prioritise donating, recycling and reusing materials whenever possible to minimise landfill waste.

Man and van rubbish removal starts from £90 +VAT for a mini load, rising with the amount of space your waste takes up in the van. Skip hire starts from £150 +VAT. Single item collections are priced per item — enter your postcode on our booking page for exact prices in your area.

What are booking slot fees?

A standard weekday 'anytime' booking has no slot fee. Choosing a specific morning or afternoon window, an evening slot or a weekend adds a small surcharge because it constrains our routing — the current amounts are on our prices page. Skip hire deliveries have no slot fees.

What are extra time fees, and how do parking and access affect the price?

Every timed collection includes a set on-site allowance (15 minutes for a mini van load up to 90 for a super-size load; a strict 30 minutes for wait & load skips). Time beyond it is charged at £1.50 per minute. Where access adds time — parking far from the property, stairs without a lift, long carries — you can pre-purchase extra time blocks when booking (unused time refunded) or avoid extra time by preparing: clear access and parking, bag loose rubbish, bring items to the ground floor.

Is a man and van cheaper than a skip?

For small to medium amounts of waste a man and van is usually cheaper and easier: you don't need a permit, we do the loading, and you only pay for the space you use. Skips work out better for ongoing projects where waste accumulates over days or weeks.

Do I need a permit for my skip?

Only if the skip goes on a public road or pavement. If it fits on your drive or private land, no permit is needed. Where a council permit is required we arrange it and pass the council's charge through at cost — tell us when you book.

What can't go in a skip?

Mattresses, fridges and freezers, tyres, gas bottles and upholstered furniture (including sofas and separate cushions) are not permitted in skips, grab loads or bins — they legally need specialist disposal. If any are found in your skip they incur per-item charges. Book them as man & van items instead and they're handled properly at a fixed price.

What is wait & load skip hire?

The lorry waits while you load the skip, then takes it straight away — ideal where there's nowhere to leave a skip or a permit isn't practical. Wait & load includes a strict 30 minutes on site; time beyond that is charged at £1.50 per minute, so have everything ready to go.

How long can I keep the skip, and how do exchanges work?

Standard hire includes up to 2 weeks. Need it longer? Just ask. When a skip is full and you have more to shift, book an exchange — we collect the full skip and drop a fresh one in the same visit. Collections are included in your hire and are booked from your account or by phone.

Three things make collections quick: keep parking and access clear, bag or box loose rubbish, and bring items to the ground floor where possible. Prepared jobs almost always finish comfortably inside the included loading time, so you pay exactly the price you booked.

What happens if there's no parking outside?

Tell us about parking when you book — restricted parking, red routes and long carries all add loading time, and it's cheaper to plan for it than discover it on the day. Where parking is restricted you accept liability for any parking fine or charge incurred to complete the collection, so a cleared space or a valid visitor permit is always the better option.
